Meet Benji
Benji is the newest member of RPY. Benji has received special training in obedience, tricks, and providing therapeutic support. He continues his work as therapy-dog-in-training, alongside his handler/treat provider, Christine.
Benji’s job is simple, but important: allow clients to pet him and in turn provide comfort. Benji’s presence supports clients through Animal-Assisted Therapy (AAT) by providing opportunities for the release of serotonin and oxytocin (the feel good chemicals), lowering anxiety, increasing access to positive emotion, and providing comfort, all products of the Human-Animal Bond (HABRI, 2012).
While Benji continues his training, his presence in the office is intermittent. Sessions including Benji will include specific AAT interventions designed to support nervous system regulation.
